Alexander "Alex" Copeland

Alexander “Alex” Lane Copeland, 84, of Beaufort, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Carteret Health Care of Morehead City. 

Born and raised on Copeland Road in Beaufort, Alex was a proud graduate of Beaufort High School's class of 1958, where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and football.   

Alex served his country with dedication in the United States Coast Guard for four years, with postings in Hawaii and New York City. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career, as he became a charter member, deacon, and choir member of Calvary Baptist Church of Beaufort, where he was deeply involved in the spiritual life of his community.  

A man of entrepreneurial spirit, Alex was the owner and operator of Beaufort Florist, Mariners' Galley of Beaufort, and a lawn service business, which he operated until the age of 70.   

Alex's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and community. His legacy is one of service, dedication, and love, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.  

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church of Beaufort with Pastor David Bruce officiating. Burial will follow at Oceanview Cemetery in Beaufort. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the church. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor Copeland of Beaufort; two sons, Dr. Benjamin Judson Copeland and wife, Michelle of Greenville; Patterson Lane Copeland of Beaufort; granddaughter, Charlotte Yeast and husband, Robinson of Harrodsburg, KY; granddaughter, Meredith Copeland of Greenville; grandson, Prem Copeland of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benny and Julia Copeland; brother, Dr. Gary Copeland; sister, Anita Copeland Earp.
