Anne Gregory

Anne Bailey Gregory, age 79, of Emerald Isle, NC, passed away Saturday January 2, 2016. She was born in Apex, and moved to Angier, NC to raise her family and operate an antique business. Anne moved to the NC coast with her late husband and best friend, Lemuel Gregory. Wherever Anne lived and traveled she made lasting friendships. During her long battle with cancer, it became apparent how many lives she had touched in very special ways and the bonds that formed, as unique as the woman herself. Memorial Service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday January 23, at Chapel By The Sea, Emerald Isle. Anne is survived by her son, John E. Williams of Raleigh, her granddaughters, Bailey R. Williams of Belmont, NC, and Laura E. Williams of Greenville, NC, two stepchildren Gayle Byrd of Coats, NC, and Chapman Williams of Raleigh, NC. Anne was preceded in death by her infant son, Darryl Napier, two brothers, Talmadge and Hubert Bailey and sister, Ellen Bassett. The story of Annes life doesnt center on her exceptional interior decorating talent, which was so generously shared, but by the love she showed for her family and friends. Her granddaughters, Bailey and Laura, will forever cherish Nana (AKA Hoochie Mama) and the memories of her high heeled shoes that wobbled on their feet to the early Christmas morning giggles as Nana kept them corralled in their rooms until light. True friends are a treasure and among them, some sparkle through good and challenging times. Friend Wayne Upchurch, from Greensboro, NC brought much joy into Annes life and helped her open her home to many other cherished friends that filled her home with laughter. Jean and Lawrence Shuping, from Raleigh, NC, probably Annes closest, longtime friends were two of her biggest cheerleaders. Anne taught all that knew her many diverse life lessons, including how to show some sass, how to make the best pimento cheese bend over and fried chicken (Anne dont burn no fried chicken) in the south, and how to double up for the night when her house was over sleeping capacity. Anne will be missed, hearts will ache, but fond memories will forever be in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
