Ben Thomas Anglesey

November 5, 1930 — December 14, 2018

Obituary Ben Thomas Anglesey, beloved husband and father, passed from this life Friday, December 14, 2018. Born November 5, 1930, in Labelle, Idaho, he was 88 years old. Ben was the fourth of seven children born to Mary Ellen Barnes and Rulon LaVern Anglesey. Raised on an Idaho farm which fostered a steely work-ethic, Ben committed heart-and-soul to every task that came his way. He was always kind and generous, helping wherever help was needed. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Harkers Island officiated by Bishop BL Marcom. The family will receive friends at the church the hour prior to the service. As a young man, he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central Atlantic States Mission. Upon arrival, Bens Mission President admonished him to memorize a new scripture every day of his mission. This he did, making him a powerful missionary, teacher, and public speaker for the rest of his life. In 1952, Ben married Norma Lou Tobler; they had three children, Eric, Kathryn, and Alan. A few years later, they divorced and Ben moved to Spokane, Washington. Sometime later, he reconnected with one of the sister missionaries with whom he had served in his mission. Frances Willis was living in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the time. Even though he lived in Spokane, Washington, Ben would make the nearly 1,500 mile journey several times a year to 'court' Frances. After two years, they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple August 12, 1966. They have three daughters, Alisa, Mary Alison, and Carol Ann. The following years involved considerable travel as his work required the family to relocate throughout their marriage: Washington, Indiana, North Carolina, California, Oregon, Colorado, and eventually to Utah in 1991. Wherever they lived, Ben planted roses in front of the house so that his Sweetheart could have a fresh rose every day. Ben worked tirelessly his entire life. In addition to his full-time job as a financial controller, he served in The Church constantly. Evenings and weekends were often dedicated to his service in a bishopric, on the high-counsel, or performing some random act of service for someone in the ward. He was always ready to minister wherever there was a need and he did so selflessly, without fanfare. He was an exceptional gentleman in all the best ways. The world is a lesser place without this kind, unassuming, stalwart man. Ben is survived by three siblings, five children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
