Betty Chadwick Smith, 91, of Beaufort, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at her home.
A devoted member of the North River Methodist Church, Betty lived a life marked by dedication to her family.
Betty was born and raised in Beaufort, where she spent her entire life. She was married to the late Thomas Maxwell Smith for over 57 years, a union blessed with love and resilience. Her twin daughters along with Thomas, preceded her in death. Despite these profound losses, Betty found joy and solace in her family, particularly her great grandchildren, who were truly the apple of her eye. She was known for always having a freezer full of ice cream ready for their visits, a testament to her nurturing and loving nature.
Professionally, Betty retired from Owens Corning, where she was respected for her hard work and dedication. Even after retirement, she continued to work part-time at Roses Department Store for over 30 years, embodying a spirit of independence and commitment that inspired those around her.
Betty's life was a tapestry of love and resilience. Her unwavering faith and dedication to her family and work left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her steadfast spirit, and the joy she brought into the lives of her family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the North River Methodist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Allen Smith Sr. of Beaufort; two grandsons, Thomas Smith Jr. and wife, Monica of Beaufort; Chris Smith of Los Angeles, CA; two great grandsons, Cameron and Connor Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Caffie Chadwick; her husband, Thomas Maxwell Smith; her twin daughters, Lisa and Carol Smith; sister, Grace Chadwick; niece, Sharon K. Guthrie.
