Bobby Lee Meeks

Bobby Lee Meeks, 79, of Beaufort, passed away Thursday February 18, 2016 at his home. A funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Monday at Edwards Chapel Free Will Baptist Church of South River with Pastor Wilbur Hall officiating. Burial will take place 11:00 Am Tuesday at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC. Following his service in the US Army, he was employed as distributor for the youth market at Durham Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He later drove a tour bus for Southern Coach before retiring after 16 years. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church of Durham before his retirement and later joined Edwards Chapel Free Will Baptist Church of South River. He was also a member of the South River-Merrimon Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Master Mason, raised in Eno Masonic Lodge #210 of Durham, and a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #109 of Beaufort; Past Patron Bahama Chapter # 203 and Beaufort Chapter #128, Order of the Eastern Star; Past Royal Patron of Camelot Court # 15 and Peace Court #18, Order of The Amaranth; Past Grand Royal Patron of NC Order of the Amaranth; a member of the York Rite Masonic Bodies of New Bern; and a member of the Sudan Shrine Temple of New Bern. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie T. Meeks of Beaufort; two sons, David Lee Meeks of Durham; Bradley Rae Meeks and wife, Sharon, of Beaufort; five grandchildren: Matthew, Jennifer, Taylor, Brandon, and Jonathon; brother, Chester Meeks of Wilmington; step-grandson, Nick Lamm and wife, Christy; and great-grand daughter, Zoey of Jacksonville, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ruth Burnette Meeks; sisters, Mamie Huffman and Evelyn Latta; brother, Trooper Leonard H. Meeks Sr. NC State Trooper killed in action 1972. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
