Obituary Braxton "George" Goodwin Sr., 62, of Cedar Island, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. A graveside service at the Goodwin Family Cemetery on Cedar Island will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2019 with Rev. Nelson Koonce officiating. Braxton George Goodwin was born on January 11, 1957 at Sealevel Hospital. "George" was the third of six children born to Ronald and Becky Goodwin. He lived his entire life on Cedar Island and worked as a commercial fisherman most of that time. At a young age, George and his brothers rose early to fish nets before they headed off to school each day, and they worked at the family fish house each afternoon. Eventually, George owned his own shrimp trawler and worked the waters surrounding Cedar Island for almost 20 years. After selling his shrimp trawler, George worked for approximately ten years on a dredge for the state of North Carolina. Throughout this time, George also enjoyed taking trips to the mountains; but he always returned to the waters around Cedar Island. George and Claudia, his wife of thirty-two years, raised two wonderful girls. George would tell you that Patricia was his "Pooh Bear," and his "Chip off the Old Block!" He would also tell everyone, very proudly, that he got to name Dixie Le all by himself. He enjoyed spending time with his girls fishing, horseback riding and especially finding new ways to aggravate and pester his girls. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face. George is survived by his children, Braxton George Goodwin Jr.; Patricia Danielle Goodwin Willis; Dixie Le "Kitty" Goodwin; grandchildren, Cameron Lee Gillikin; Ryan Hendrix Willis; Rosalin Agatha Willis; siblings, Callie Goodwin Daniels and Paul Daniels; Isaac Goodwin; Sherman Goodwin and wife Velvet; Shelia Goodwin Dixon and husband Jimmy; Henry Goodwin and wife Stephanie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Becky Goodwin; and nephew, James Dixon.
