Cynthia Lou Hobgood, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House. Born on April 28, 1943, in Beaufort, to Roy and Lucy Gaskill Dudley, Lou lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and service.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Beaufort By the Sea Church with Pastor Rusty Willis officiating. A private burial will follow at Oceanview Cemetery in Beaufort. A recording of the service will be posted on the Noefs.net website following the service.
A devout Christian, Lou devoted her life to serving the Lord through various ministries. She was a cherished Sunday School teacher, a leader of youth groups, and an active participant in Operation Christmas Child, touching countless lives with her kindness and commitment.
Lou was a proud graduate of East Carolina College, now known as East Carolina University, and a lifelong member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career as a schoolteacher, where she inspired and influenced generations of students over more than 31 years.
Lou is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Bobby Hobgood; her daughter, Kelly Hobgood, and partner Jeff of Atlantic Beach; her son, Scott Hobgood, and wife Theresa of Beaufort; and her grandchildren, Kahla Lovings and husband Ted, Parker Hobgood, and Jack Hobgood. She also leaves behind her great-grandson, Ethan Lovings; her sisters, Betty Jo Ward and Lisa Lane, along with their families; Brother-In-Law Dixie Hobgood along with his family; and her special nephew, Todd Poythress. Lou's life was enriched by the love and special friendship of Brenda Best, Jeanne Huntley, and Jean Laughton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Ann Poythress.
Lou will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to education, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
