David Allan Brooks

August 21, 1983 — January 14, 2024

David Allan Brooks, 40, of Otway, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at his home.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Refuge Fellowship Church with Pastor Manley Rose officiating.


A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January, 23, 2024 at Vergie Mae Cemetery in Harkers Island.


David attended Harkers Island Elementary School and later graduated from East Carteret High School in 2001. He was a skilled carpenter who built boats and houses, alongside his daddy. David is best known for his calm demeanor and infectious smile. David loved his boys, his family, and his Island upbringing. He also loved motorcycles, going out in the boat, and listening to music. He is known to keep his family waiting, as he always showed up late to family functions, but always showed up with a smile.


He is survived by his two sons, Hunter Gordon Baxter of Beaufort; Harley Patrick Brooks of Havelock; mother, Gail Brooks of Beaufort; father, Pat Brooks of Harkers Island; sister, Rebecca Brooks Mann and husband, Chad of Harkers Island; three nephews: Jaxon, Aiden, and Boden; paternal grandmother, Joan Brooks of Harkers Island; maternal grandfather, Danny (Hazel) Taylor of Sea Level; maternal grandmother, Glenda Haning of Sea Level.


He was preceded in death by his baby, Hilary Patterson Brooks; paternal grandfather, Pat Brooks Sr.; aunt, Janet Brooks Martin; and his beloved dog, Mya.
