On Monday, September 16th, 2024, Debra Midgett Hooper, loving wife of Elvin, mother of Kristina and grandmother of Kirra, passed away at the age of seventy-one, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City NC. Debra formerly of Buxton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully with her daughter, Kristina, by her side after battling illness at ECU Health Medical Center and Carteret Healthcare.
Debra Christine Midgett was born in Norfolk, Virginia on December 25th, 1952, to Luke Bradshaw Midgett, CW04, United States Coast Guard and Annie Gray Mades Midgett. She graduated from Hatteras School in Buxton, NC. During that time period it was the only school available for students to attend. Debra worked in Sales after graduating from high school and had a natural niche with selling due to her bright smile, sweet demeanor, charisma, and natural ability to make others feel comfortable.
Upon her nineteenth birthday, she married the love of her life, Elvin Linwood Hooper. They were a very much loving and devoted couple. They express their love to one another as if they were still newlyweds by holding hands everywhere they went, their laughter at one another, along with their ability to find comfort in just sitting silently together. Their love was a true testament. They were married forty-eight years before he passed on November 4th, 2022.
Debra knew from an extremely young age that she wanted to be a mother, with all her being. God granted that beautiful blessing to come true upon the arrival of their daughter Kristina Ann Hooper. She would share that her life was perfectly complete and did not want or need for anything after Kristina was placed in her arms. Debra was one to count her many blessings. She would often share one of many of her most precious memories that she kept close to her heart was cooking dinner on one of Kristina’s game nights. She loved every second of cooking, sitting down as a family, and rushing to watch their daughter play. It was those little sweet moments that she treasured of being a mama.
God had granted Debra what she felt was the greatest blessing which was motherhood. Yet, she would be blessed again by the arrival of her granddaughter Kirra Ann Glibin. Debra was absolutely delighted to be a grandmother and doted upon Kirra with the greatest love and affection as she did her daughter.
Debra touched many lives through her unfaltering kindness to all that passed in and out of her life. She was extremely humble, generous, and believed that there was good in everyone. Every person that met her loved her for her enormous heart and the way she loved others. She will truly be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Debra is survived by her loving daughter Kristina Ann Hooper and granddaughter Kirra Ann Hooper both of Morehead City, NC; sister-n-law and affectionately donned by Kristina as “Grandma Jean,” Jean Hooper of Buxton, NC; sister-n-law/an extremely close friend Julia Midgett of Beaufort NC; nephews, Bradley (Brad), Luke III, Charlie, Kenny, Aaron, Rion, Stan, Kyle, Stanley, Mason, and Logan; nieces, Hilda, Kathy, Amanda, Charlotte, Nicole (Niki), Erin, Brittany, Shanna, Christian, Megan Julia Grey, and Kinley.
