Dorothy Jarman Piner, of Beaufort, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025 at the age of 86. Born and raised on a blueberry farm in Beaufort, North Carolina, Dorothy's life was richly woven with the vibrant stories of her upbringing and the cherished history of her hometown.
Known affectionately as "Dee Dot" to her grandchildren, Dorothy found immense joy in spending time with her family. Her only son, Little Jim, was the highlight of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with him and his family. Sunday dinners were a treasured tradition, where Dorothy’s warmth and southern cooking enveloped her family!
Dorothy shared a profound bond with her husband, Big Jim, with whom she traveled extensively, exploring new places and creating memories! Dorothy and Big Jim’s love story began at Tuttles Grove Church, where they exchanged vows and remained committed members throughout their lives and even celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Shelling at Cape Lookout was a cherished tradition for Dorothy, where she would spend hours combing the shore with Big Jim and Little Jim, eagerly searching for beautiful treasures washed ashore. The weekends spent on their houseboat were filled with laughter, whether it was the thrill of finding a perfect conch shell or simply enjoying the sunset.
Dorothy devoted 35 years of her career to the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service, where her dedication and work ethic left a lasting impact. Upon her retirement, she found happiness in her flower beds, nurturing it with the same care she afforded her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Jimmy Piner and wife Teri and grandchildren James Piner (Abigail), Christa Piner (Charlie), Kalah Piner (Patrick). Along with five GREATS, Kolby, Travis, Jacob, Liliana and Ashley. She leaves behind a community that will dearly miss her stories, laughter, and kind spirit.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Core Creek Methodist Church on March 4, 2025 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tuttles Grove Church in honor of Dorothy’s lifelong love for her church.
Her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
