Dr. Hugh 'Stan' Stanley Gregory

Obituary Stan Gregory, 81, of Beaufort, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport with his wife by his side. A private memorial celebration of his life will be held at a future date. Stan was born in Swannanoa, North Carolina, the only son of Carrie and Dolph Gregory. He completed medical school at UNC Chapel Hill. His specialty was in the treatment of ear, nose and throat surgery. He entered the Air Force after his medical school training and was a Viet Nam Veteran. During that time, he served as a flight surgeon for special forces operations. Stan opened his practice in Jacksonville, North Carolina in the seventies and practiced until his retirement. He then became certified to practice dive medicine and continued until his final retirement in the nineties. Stan was preceded in death by his parents Carrie and Dolph, his sister Frances, his first wife B. Lee, and his son David. He is survived by his wife Betty and his son Bryan and his partner Mike. He was a truly caring and gifted man. He was a physician, an artist, musician, and sailor. His hand-crafted musical string instruments and his hand-crafted fishing poles are in high demand. Everyone wanted a "Gregory". He did a few water colors and took remarkable underwater photos. He always had an interest in trying different ideas and skills. He is remembered for his caring personal attention to his patients and his loving, kind attention to his family and friends. Dr. Hugh "Stan" Gregory will be missed greatly.
