Edward Lee Small

Obituary Edward Lee Small "Fast Eddie", 79, of Newport, NC passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at his home. Edward was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired after a long career as a Civil Service Air Craft Mechanic at MCAS Cherry Point. He was a Mason, loved fast cars, NASCAR, and building engines. He became good friends with a special woodpecker that Eddie trained to peck on a metal plate he installed to signal it was feeding time. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, January 19 at the Carteret County Speedway, 501 Whitehouse Fork Rd, Swansboro, NC. Per his request, his body will be donated to science to help further Parkinsons Disease research. Mr. Small is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Small of the home; son, Stewart Small of Ridgeland, MS; daughter, Teresa Hemenway of Newport, NC; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters; Grace Dawson of Tarboro, NC; Faye Rouse of Kinston, NC; Connie Foote of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Durward Small of Grifton, NC; Ronald Small of Kinston, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Maybelle Small; sister, Nettie Small; brother, Ray Small.
