Gene R. Small

Gene R. Small, 77, of Harlowe, NC passed away on Friday January 13, 2017 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC. Mr. Small was a lifelong member of Harlowe United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for several years. He was a member of the Harlowe Volunteer Fire Department, the Newport Masonic Lodge #706 and Sudan Shriners of New Bern. He served in the U.S. Army, retired as a Planner & Estimator aboard Cherry Point and worked for many years at Lowes Grocery Store in Morehead City, NC. A funeral service will be held at12:00 PM on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at Harlowe United Methodist Church with Pastor Gina Barrow and Pastor Homer Morris officiating. Burial will follow at the Harlowe United Methodist Church Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Clara G. Small of Harlowe; two sons, Tommy E. Small of Myrtle Beach, SC and Kevin G. Small of Harlowe; two grandchildren, Katlyn M. Small and Nicholas A. Small both of Harlowe; sister, Esther Ford and husband, Ken of Havelock; brother, Billy Small and wife, Rhonda of Harlowe; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Small and Annette Small both of Harlowe. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Small; four brothers: Donald "Mole" Small, Marvin Small, Carroll Small and Lester Small. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
