George Fred Raymond Jr.

George F. Raymond Jr., 92, of Atlantic passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay. Born in Fresno, CA, Mr. Raymond served in the US Coast Guard on the USS Bisbee (1943-1945) during WWII and then went on to retire from the US Marine Corps as Gunnery Sergeant (1950-1977) having served during the Korean War (1st Armored Amphibious Tank Battalion) and Vietnam War (1st Division Da Nang). Following retirement from the USMC, Mr. Raymond worked as a Deputy Sherriff for Carteret County, NC and ended his working career as a caretaker for the Outer Banks cabins for Don Morris Marina. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Bridgeway Church of Beaufort with Pastor Paul Harris officiating and military honors. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rachel Raymond of Atlantic; two daughters, Belinda Raymond Robinson (spouse Sherwood Wayne Robinson) of Atlantic, NC; Stacey Raymond Abernathy (spouse James Bradley Abernathy) of Rocky Mount, NC; and one grandson, Keegan Robinson of Atlantic, NC. He was preceded in death by his son, John Chance Raymond in 2004.
