Gerald 'Jerry' Edward Eckles

Gerald "Jerry" Edward Eckles, of Morehead City, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at his home at the age of 72. Jerry was born in Whittier, California on January 18, 1944. Later, his family moved to Hemet, where his father managed a ranch. When Jerry was 13 the family settled in Sacramento, California. Jerry met the love of his life, Lonna, in high school, and they were married in 1964. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage marked by loyalty to each other for 52 years. During those years they welcomed the birth of their son David in 1966 and their daughter Lorna in 1974. A major milestone in Jerrys life was his baptism as one of Jehovahs Witnesses in 1979. He enjoyed helping others as a volunteer full-time minister for over 22 years. Jerry and Lonna enjoyed very much sharing comforting Bible truths with others in their ministry. Jerry was known by all as a loving husband, caring friend, and a calm and faithful person who took a genuine interest in others. He was always willing to use his time to help and encourage young and old. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses located at 324 McCabe Road, Newport, NC 28570. Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lonna Jo Pitney Eckles of Morehead City; son, David Edward Eckles and wife, Robyn of Wallkill, NY; daughter, Lorna Mary Novak and husband, Greg of Morehead City; three grandchildren, Gabrielle, Gillian, and Logan Novak all of Morehead City; two brothers, Paul Eckles of Laguna Niguel, CA; Steven Eckles of Carmichael, CA.
