Iris Mae Pizio

November 21, 1920 — July 16, 2016

Iris Mae Simpson Pizio, 95 of Beaufort and Morehead City having spent most of her life in New Jersey, passed away Saturday July 16, 2016 in Beaufort. Iris met her husband Anthony (Tony) in Atlantic Beach early in 1942 while he was stationed at Ft. Macon at the beginning of World War II. After they married that May, Iris moved to Tonys home town of New York City while Tony was shipped to Europe and would eventually serve in "Pattons Own" Third Army. While in New York, Iris worked as "Rosie the Riveter" supporting the war effort by soldering wires in radios to be used in bombers. After the birth of their children, the family moved to Bellmawr, NJ. The family will celebrate her life privately. She is survived by her son, Robert Pizio and wife, Marra of Beaufort and Brigantine, New Jersey; two grandsons, John and Benjamin Pizio of New Jersey; sister, Genevieve Freedman and husband, Earl of Gettysburg, PA and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Myrtle Gaskins Simpson; husband, Anthony "Tony" Pizio; son, Anthony Richard "Ricky" Pizio; five brothers: Alvin Jr., Herman, Edgar, Robert, and William Simpson. Interment will be private at Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, NJ.
