James Berkley Nolen, Sr.

Obituary James Berkley Nolen was born to the late Evelyn L. Nolen and James Carter on September 15, 1939. He departed this life on November 30, 2019 at his home in Beaufort NC. His education included graduating from Queen Street High School, studies at Carteret Community College and the Apprentice Program at Cherry Point Air Station where he was employed for thirty years. He was married to Mary Willoughby Nolen and of this union was born two children, Derria and James Berkley Jr.(Jamie). He joined Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and became a faithful servant as Trustee until his passing. Jimmy was an outgoing and friendly person whose personality was bright and uplifting to all who knew him. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Beaufort with Rev. Curtis O. Donald, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. He leaves to cherish his memory always: his wife of sixty years, Mary; his two children Derria Nolen Dixon (Barry) of Greenville, NC and James Berkley Nolen Jr. (Belinda) of Greenville, NC. Four grandchildren: Dana Dixon and Dreu Dixon both of Los Angeles, CA; James Bernard Nolen of Charlotte, NC; and Jonathan Nolen of Greenville, NC. Five brothers: James B. Carter (Beverly) of Roanoke, VA; Alphonso Carter (Shelby) of Norfolk, VA; Raymond Carter (Mary) of San Antonio, TX; Jerome Carter of Baltimore, MD; and Gerald Carter (Patricia) of Norfolk, VA. Three sisters: Sandra Copeland of Virginia Beach, VA; Mae Carter of Virginia Beach, VA; and Cynthia Phillips of Irving, TX. A special niece, Kay Haynes, two special cousins, Sandra Collins and Vodra Jones and many, many other family members and friends.
