James “Jim” Arnold Alcon

Obituary James "Jim" Arnold Alcon, 73, of New Bern formerly of Otway left this earth to reside at his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 surrounded by his family. Mr. Alcon graduated from Walter Williams High School and Alamance Trade School ITT. He went on to retire from Burlington Industries. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was the Fire Chief for ten years at Otway Fire Department. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Otway Christian Church with Pastors Jack Mumford and Danny Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Southard Alcon of New Bern; son, James Mark Alcon and wife, Lisa of Graham; daughter, Lisa Alcon Leonard and husband, Hugh Vernelson Jr. of New Bern; sister, Brenda Perry of Burlington; grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole Porter and Joanna Corretjer of New Bern; Jennifer Mae Alcon of Whitsett; Tyler Jones of Unterreichenbach, Germany; Blake Leonard and Hunter Vernelson of New Bern; great granddaughter, Teagan Saum of Whitsett. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nora Setzer Harvey and step father, Horace Arnold Harvey.
