Obituary James "Bootsy" Patterson, 64, of Beaufort, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport. James David Patterson was born March 30, 1958, to James Sanders and Addie Patterson Sanders Covington LA. James graduated from East Carteret High School where he played football, ran track, and wrestled. He was given the name 'Colonel' by his peers. James was also known as 'Bootsy' for his love of music. He was one of the best DJ's in NC during the late 70's and 80's. James worked at Homer Smith Seafood and at Homer Smith's Dock and Marina in Beaufort for many years. He was a skilled and dedicated employee, and he was well respected for his wealth of knowledge and customer service. During the later years of life, James was called 'Rev.' for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. As a grandfather, James set an example for his family and friends by demonstrating the wisdom of putting God first through early morning devotion and prayer. James made his final transition peacefully saying I'm ready to go home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Greenwood Cemetery in Morehead City. James is survived by his wife, Margaret, son, David, daughter, Margaret (Missy), and nine grandchildren: Julian, Dashia, Davien, Micaiah, Deldrick Jr., Brandan, Malakai, David Jr., Saniyah; and two great grandchildren: Delilah and Davien Jr. And two brothers: Alan Sanders of Florida; Christopher Sanders of Morehead City; two uncles: Bill Patterson (Martha), Eric Patterson; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Addie Sanders; son, Michael Patterson; sister, Stephanie Garcia; and brother, Larry Sanders.
