James "Pete" Creech, 73, of Beaufort, passed away on February 12, 2025 at his home.
Pete had a deep love for the water and often spoke about his time on the river. The outdoors brought him peace, whether he was walking, sitting outside with his guitar, or working on his latest project—frequently fixing broken equipment the "Creech" way. A gifted storyteller, he captivated those around him with dramatic and unforgettable tales.
He lived simply but generously, always willing to lend a hand and share what he had with others. Those who knew him would describe him as a unique character whose presence left a lasting impression.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at North River Methodist Church in Beaufort. A private burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Pete is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Creech and her husband, Jeff; his son, Clifton Creech and his wife, Erin; and his grandchildren, Kurtis Scott Lutz III, Tanner Goodwin, Katie Goodwin, and Alder Evans Creech; and the mother of his children, Melanie Arthur. He is also remembered by his niece, nephew, and many extended family members and friends. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Maggie Creech and his sister, Peggy.
