Joyce Wainwright Neal

Joyce “Joy” Carolyn Wainwright Neal, 67, of Charleston, SC passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Joy was born on November 9, 1957, to Richard and Daphne Wainwright. She was one of five children. She grew up in Ayden graduating Ayden-Grifton in 1976.

Joy made a career at First Citizen Bank in Charleston, SC as a Human Resource Manager. She spent the better part of twenty years with them. She later became an important part of management for Burris & Co in Charleston.

Joy loved to garden which was evident with the lovely yard she had. She had a green thumb. She loved the wildlife and always filled the feeders. She also had a love of cooking which she mastered.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Mike and Pat Wainwright; two nephews, Brady Stancill and Chris Wainwright; and a niece, Megan Gibson. Joy was also preceded in death by several beloved pets.

Joy is survived by a sister, Jan and husband Robert Rasberry of Greenville; a brother, Gary and wife Susan Wainwright of Rocky Point; and stepparents, John and Eleanora Hinson. Joy is also survived by her special companion, Myka.

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Charleston Animal Society or any animal rescue of your choice.
