Leroy Sharpe

March 21, 1934 — May 13, 2023

Obituary Leroy Sharpe the son of the late Joe and Julia Sharpe was born March 21, 1934, in Statesboro, GA. He transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport, NC. He was 89 years old. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Purvis Chapel AME Zion Church of Beaufort with Rev. Thomas Fryar officiating. Leroy worked in various jobs as a foreman in Carteret County, NC. He was employed with the Port of Morehead City, J.M. Thompson Co, and Conner Homes Corporation. Leroy was a faithful and active church member at Purvis Chapel AME Zion Church of Beaufort where he served on the Trustee board and Steward board. Leroy was very well-known and respected in the community and he was a member of the original Beaufort Elks Lodge and the Masonic Hero Lodge #248 in Beaufort, NC. Leroy became wheelchair bound in his early 70s and never allowed this to change his attitude towards life. He always made light from hardships, and he was a real jokester who liked creating unique and humorous nicknames for family members. On the other hand, he was straight forward and meant business; if you didnt want the truth, dont ask him. Leroy was married to Almira Sharpe for 70 glorious years. Couples who make it this long represent just one-tenth of one percent of all marriages. This kind of love is rare and a great triumph. He was a loving husband and devoted father to six children. Leroy is survived by his wife, Almira Sharpe of Beaufort, NC; daughter, Carrie Sharpe of Beaufort, NC; son, Eddie Lee Sharpe and wife, Pamela of Morehead City, NC; son, Edward Spell of Lake Charles, LA; daughter-in-law, Pamela Hampton of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter, Marquisia Sharpe of Beaufort, NC; grandson, Leandro Godette Jr. of Beaufort, NC; granddaughter, Shannon Finch of Jacksonville, NC; granddaughter, Crystal Finch of Fayetteville, NC; grandson, Tony Olando Sharpe of Harlowe, NC; grandson, Tevin Sharpe of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter, Selena Foster of FL; granddaughter, Tee Tee Foster of Harlowe, NC; grandson, Joseph McKelvey of NY; granddaughter, Lynn Lewis of Durham, NC; granddaughter, Lakisha Walker of Beaufort, NC; grandson, Devon Matthew Jason Barnhardt of NY; grandson, Decasey Wallace of Raleigh, NC and many more grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a very special niece and nephew, Mary and Randy Franks of Chesapeake, VA; and his beloved dog, Lucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Julia Sharpe; brothers: Willie Sharpe, Otis Sharpe, Johnnie Lee Sharpe, Albert Sharpe, and Hubert Sharpe; sisters: Isabelle Kettle, Beatrice Gibson, Josie Mae Jones, Annie Mae Cohen, Zena Mae Johnson and Carrie Busby; children: Leroy Hampton, Delores Sharpe, and Glen Sharpe.
