Maureen Horn Kelly, 80, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025.
The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
Born on March 31, 1945, in Weehawken, New Jersey, Maureen proudly embraced her roots as a "Jersey Girl."A lifelong public educator, Maureen began her career teaching home economics and later served as office staff for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. Her dedication to education left a lasting impression on many throughout her years of service.
Known for her vibrant personality and infectious sense of humor, Maureen brought joy and laughter wherever she went. She was often heard singing spontaneously—sometimes dancing along—and was fond of saying, “It is what it is.” In retirement, she cherished beach days and treasured her role as “Grammy” to her grandchildren.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Jane Horn; her brother, Vincent Horn; and her beloved Schnauzer, Sparky.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dan Kelly of Beaufort; her three sons: Sean (Lindsey), Ryan (Ann), and Patrick (Mary); her grandchildren: Catherine, Rachel, Alex, Joe, Cordelia, and Lachlan; and her sister, Jane Rumain (Bob).
