Melvin Gordon Willis Sr

Melvin Gordon "Capt. Meb" Willis, 75, of Marshallberg, passed away Tuesday September 20, 2016 at his home. Capt. Meb left Marshallberg at the age of 16 to work as a deckhand in Newport News, VA for Raymond Davis Transportation. After many years away from home, he retired a Captain from Dann Towing Company at the age of 54. He loved the Marshallberg community and was a proud member of the Marshallberg Community Club. He loved spending his time in Core Sound and with the commercial fishermen at the harbor. The family will celebrate his life privately. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kaye Willis of Marshallberg; son, Buddy Willis and girlfriend, Teresa Erb of Beaufort; daughter, Angie Fulcher and husband, Donald Jr. of Atlantic; six grandchildren, Amanda Davis and husband, Sonny of Raleigh; Amber and Cody Fulcher of Stedman, NC; Ryan Pitcher of Bogue Sound; Johnathan Michael Willis of Beaufort; Emily Willis of Beaufort; six sisters, Frances Willis of Atlantic; Alycia Willis of Beaufort; Jean Smith of Marshallberg; Judy Sanders of Marshallberg; Debbie Jo Cooley and husband Rusty of Beaufort; Mary Ann Nichols of Beaufort; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roland and Mae Willis; brothers, Roland Dewey Willis, Larry Willis, and Terry Willis; sister, Kay Noyes. Melvins wish, in lieu of flowers, was for donations to be made in his honor to the CMTA (Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association) to raise awareness and funding for research in hopes that a cure would be discovered for his family and others suffering from this disease.
