Obituary Olivia Taylor, 101, of Beaufort, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023, at home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Bridgeway Church of Beaufort. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 on Saturday at the church. Olivia Simmons Taylor (Mrs. Mutt) of the North River Community was born November 11, 1921 to Robert Simmons and Chalise Wilson Simmons. Olivia quietly went to be with the Lord on February10,2023 surrounded by her loving family in Chesapeake, Virginia. Mrs. Mutt received an education in the Carteret County School system up to the seventh grade. Mrs. Mutt was employed for over 20 years at Sunshine Cleaners and Laundry. She was a babysitter in her home for many years afterward. Mrs. Mutt joined Mt. Tabor Church at an early age and was an active member until her health failed and she moved to Virginia to live with her daughter, Judy. In addition, she also attended Lamb and Lion Worship Center. Mrs. Mutt was the oldest living member in the North River Community. A birthday celebration was held in her honor in November 2021 to celebrate her 100th birthday. She received many accolades and a key to the town of Beaufort by then Mayor Rett Newton. When asked what was her secret to living 100 years, her response was 'Always trust God and let Him order your steps in everything you do. Mrs. Mutt, who never met a stranger, had a gentle spirit, warm heart, soft voice, and an affectionate smile. She loved having visitors to stop by her home where she would share stories, watch westerns, soap operas, or an episode of Hee Haw. As long as she had something sweet to eat and her snuff to dip, all was well. She was one of eleven children, all proceeding her in death. She was mother to eleven children, five of them proceeding her in death. Mrs. Mutt leaves to cherish her memories, Three sons, Hubert Wallace (Lorraine) Morgan City, LA, Claude Wallace (Hilda), Beaufort, NC, and Jeffrey Taylor, Morehead City, NC. Three daughters, Judy Lassiter (Ronald), Virginia Beach, VA, Betty Ann Taylor, Havelock, NC, and Kathleen McDonald (Curtis) Beaufort, NC. Daughter-in-law Margaret Simmons. Special niece, Brenda Carlisle and special cousin, Leroy Cox. Mrs. Mutt leaves a legacy of 26 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Mutt was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Claude Wallace and Jeffrey Taylor, and Five children, James Collins, Juanita Simmons, Tommie Wallace, Frizzelle Wallace and William Simmons.
