Peggy Murrell

June 22, 1946 — May 10, 2024

Peggy Lou Murrell, 77, of Beaufort (North River community) passed away Friday, May 10, 2024, at Carolina East Medical Center.


Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Bridgeway Church in Beaufort. Entombment will follow at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Thursday at the Church.


Peggy Lou Murrell was born on June 22, 1946, to the late Gurney Murray and Thelma Murrell and raised by her stepfather, McCline Murrell.


Peggy Lou Murrell accepted Christ and was baptized and united with Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. It was there she found the love of praise and worship through songs and in the early 80's she founded the young adult choir which was named the Disciples of Christ. She became known for singing her signature songs, "Jesus" and "God Is".


Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was employed as a seamstress for over forty years and retired with Carteret Health Care Environmental Services.


She was preceded in death by her brother, William Davis Jr. and her sister, Denice Smith.


Peggy leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband, Curtis Murrell of fifty-five years; two sons, Pastor Guy Murrell (Lana), Rodney Murrell (Laveria); one daughter, Catrice Murrell Tomlin (Marvin); stepfather, McCline Murrell, one brother, McCline Mcreese Murrell; one sister, Vonnie Murray Gardner of Savannah, GA; five grandsons, Marquis Williams (Janice), Kendrick Frazier, Desmond Murrell, Nigel Murrell and Eddie Murrell Jr; two granddaughters, Victoria Monique Washington and Latasha Stocks (Albra); one sister-in-law, Doris Johnson; one aunt, Amy Tuner (Alton); two uncles, James Crooms (Gloria) and Odell Crooms (Denise); niece, Molle Smith; special niece, Dorine Rogers; goddaughter, Holly Frazier and a host of nieces and nephews. Peggy also leaves five special friends, Calla Taylor, Gloria Crooms, Brenda Johnson, Barbara Taylor and Annie Sanchez.
