Obituary Reverend James Garfield Chadwick, 83, passed on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. He was born May 13, 1940. James was the son of the late Charles Hester Debrix and Viola Chadwick Debrix. Already gone on to glory, cousin, raised as brothers, Charles Curtis Chadwick. James was married to Virginia Carol Chadwick for fifty-eight years. To this union two children were born; Anthony and Tracie. They were dedicated parents, actively involved in their childrens lives and true examples of living a faith-based life through Jesus Christ, our Savoir. James grew up and lived all his life in Beaufort, NC. He was a graduate of the Queen Street High School. He worked until retirement for Duke University Marine Laboratory as a Grounds Keeper. However, retirement was not for him so he engaged as a second career with the Town of Beaufort, supervising the Inmate Work Release Program for Grounds Keeping. He especially enjoyed this position, as it was an opportunity for him to share the love of Christ with these young men. James felt the calling to take his walk of faith deeper to become an Ordained Minister. After completing additional studies at Shaw Divinity School Extension, James preached his first sermon in 1994 and was Ordained by OEMBA October 1, 1995. As a Minister, he served as Senior Pastor at Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Bayboro, NC from 1997 to 2000 and at New Beginning Baptist Church, New Bern, NC from 2006 to 2016. He also served as an Associate Minister of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Beaufort, NC. James was also a devoted member, for over fifty years, of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Street, Beaufort, NC. He faithfully served in many positions over the years. Here we have highlighted just a few, in no particular order; Deacon, Member of the Mt. Zion Mens Choir, Inspirational Voices Choir, Youth Advisor, Assistant Superintendent of Christian Education, Co-Director of Baptist Training Union, Assistant Sunday School Teacher and Trustee Minister of Visitation. James is survived by his son Anthony P. Chadwick of Warner Robins, GA (Alesia) and daughter Tracie J. Chadwick of Wilmington, NC. Granddaughters Karen Oropeza, Haely Chadwick-Libazs and Ashlynne-Kate Chadwick; Great-Granddaughter Lily Kate Libazs (Haely) and Great-Grandson Nikolas Chadwick Libazs (Haely), all of Warner Robins, GA. Brother, Gilbert Rudolph Chadwick, Waukegan, IL and cousin, raised together as brother, Fredrick Douglas Chadwick, Beaufort, NC; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. James never met a stranger; therefore, he also leaves behind a great number of friends that became his family and now family to us. James was faithful and loving to his wife, he was the driving force behind his children knowing Christ personally, encouraging them to be their best in all their endeavors and is known for waking them by saying "Rise and Shine, and if you cant Shine, Rise Anyhow!" He was indulgent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing with them his zest for life. They in turn, adored Grandpa James! James was also loved by so many; whether taking one of his long walks, attending any church event, or serving the community that he loved so deeply; he greeted each person as if they were family. And, his smile was so contagious it lit up any room he entered. James was hardworking, genuine, charismatic and above all kind. He considered all his actions an extension of his Saviors love and will always be remembered for the exemplary life he led for Christ.
