Richard “Mac” McLaughlin, 90, of Beaufort, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Bridgeway Church of Beaufort with military honors.
Mac dedicated 30 years of his life to the US Army, where he served valiantly as both a fixed wing and helicopter pilot and instructor. His military career was distinguished by two tours in Vietnam, showcasing his commitment and skill in aviation under challenging circumstances.
Following his notable military service, Mac transitioned to a career in corporate aviation, where he continued to exemplify leadership and expertise in the field. His professional life was marked by the same dedication he displayed in the military.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mac was a revered figure in his personal life. Known as a wonderful husband, father, and friend, he was the quintessential "take charge guy" who loved to lead and care for those around him.
Mac's legacy as a steadfast protector, skilled aviator, and loving family man will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eve McLaughlin of Beaufort; daughter, Cathleen Monahan of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Barney McLaughlin and wife, Martha of Beaufort; grandchildren, Joseph Robert Sullivan and wife, Cindy of Buford, GA; grandson, Richard Kyle McLaughlin and wife, Ashley of Beaufort; grandson, Caustin Lee McLaughlin of Baltimore, MD; great granddaughter, Alexandria Lam Sullivan of Buford, GA; great grandson, Hudson Luka McLaughlin of Beaufort; brother, Michael McLaughlin of South Pasadena, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth McLaughlin and his brother, Stephen McLaughlin.
