Ruby Martha Cassel

Obituary Ruby Helwig Cassel, 86, formerly of Twin Lakes Residential Community of Burlington, NC, who resided in the Batchelor community of Havelock for the past five years, went to Heaven on Monday morning. Ruby was the daughter of the late Rev. Clarance F. and Edna Angel Helwig, lifelong residents of Pennsylvania, where he was a Churches of God pastor. Ruby was an elementary school music teacher and church musician. She retired from teaching in Pennsylvania and moved to the Twin Lakes Community of Burlington, where she was the musician at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, LaVista Drive, Burlington for more than fifteen years. At Emmanuel, she met the Salter family, whom she became close friends with. She spent the last five years of her life as a member of their family, living in their home. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents the Rev. Clarance Franklin and Edna Angel Helwig; sisters, Ruth Hueholt and Bettie Biswas. She is survived by her close nephew, Rev. David Hueholt and wife, Therese, and their sons, William and Daniel of Wilmington, NC. There is also another nephew, Mike Hueholt and niece, Chris Boddicker, and the Reverend Neal and Carolyn Salter. There will be a Christian Celebration of her life later in the fall and a public notice will be published.
