Sherwood Allan Lewis, Sr.

Sherwood A. Lewis, Sr., 80, of Otway, passed away Friday April 21, 2017 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport. A funeral service will be held 11:30 am Tuesday at Otway Christian Church with Pastor Jack Mumford officiating. Burial will follow at the Lawrence Family Cemetery in Otway. Mr. Lewis was a lifelong member of Otway Christian Church. He worked as a tugboat Captain for over 55 years. He is survived by his sweetheart, Matilda Davis of Otway; son, Buck Lewis and wife, JoAnn of Newport; son-in-law, Donald Pittman of Otway; two grandsons, Lawrence "Buddy" Lewis and wife, Ashley of Durham; Jimmy Griffiths and wife, Ali-Dee of New Bern; two granddaughters, Jutta Emory and husband, Ryan of Beaufort; Lacey Lewis Roberts and husband, Matthew of Jacksonville; six great grandchildren; sister, Vilma L. Morris of Smyrna; brother, T.L. Lewis and wife, Linda of Smyrna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clenn and Merle Lewis; wife, Linda Lewis; daughter, Joy Pittman; two brothers, Travis and Clenn Jr. Lewis; sister, Sylvia Swain. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at the Church.
