Tommie Lee Culpepper Sr.

Tommie Lee Culpepper, 81, of Beaufort, passed away Saturday November 5, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The family will hold a visitation service Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Beaufort from 6:00 to 8:00. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday also at First Baptist Church of Beaufort with Pastor James Chadwick officiating. Burial will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens of Beaufort. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane Culpepper of Beaufort; son, Tommie Lee Culpepper Jr. and wife, Wendi of Beavercreek, OH; grandchildren: Abby, Grace and Joshua Culpepper; brother, Lloyd Vance Culpepper and wife, Loretta; sister-in-law Johnise Winberry, of Mill Creek; sister-in-law Barbara McKay of Florida, brothers-in-law Ivan (Eleanor) Goodwin of Georgia, and Steve (Margaret), Goodwin and Rodney (Annette) Goodwin of Beaufort. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Alice Culpepper; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Julia Goodwin; brother, Norman Culpepper; sister, Marie Winberry; brother-in-law Charles McKay; and he is also preceded in death by his infant daughter. Tommie was born in Mill Creek and spent his adult life as a resident of Beaufort. He was a lifetime commercial fisherman working in his family business and independently. He was a longshoreman at Port Terminal and retired after more than 30 years. He worked hard for his family but always had time for his family. He took good care of his wife Jane, they did most things together and enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed sports and watching his son play at ECHS and at Campbell University was a happy and proud part of his life that has only been surpassed by his grandson Josh now playing several sports. His granddaughters Abby and Gracie are excellent students that he enjoyed sharing their successes. He and Jane wanted to give their grandchildren all the opportunities they never had. Tommie was known as a man of honesty and integrity who was humble and kind, he was a loving husband and father who will be missed by so many. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Ann Street, Beaufort in memory of Tommie.
