Verdell “Verdie B.” M. Burrus, 74, of Beaufort, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Novant Health Care in Wilmington, NC.
A lifelong member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, Verdell’s faith was a cornerstone of her life and a source of inspiration to those who knew her. She dedicated 34 years of service as a Dryer Operator at Atlantic Veneer, where her hard work and commitment left a lasting impression on her colleagues.
Verdell was known for her extraordinary culinary skills, delighting friends and loved ones with meals prepared from the heart. Her passion for gardening brought vibrant flowers and beauty into the lives of many, reflecting her love for nature and creativity.
A friend to many and a confidant to those who sought her wisdom, Verdell was admired for her selflessness in giving both time and resources to others. Her sense of humor and quick wit brought joy and laughter to countless moments, leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January, 10, 2025 at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Hubert Judon officiating. Entombment will follow at the Murrell Family Cemetery. The service will be live streamed to the funeral home website at noefs.net.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, David Lee Burrus of Beaufort; daughter, Lola McClain of Austin, TX; daughter, Sundra P. Murrell of Morehead City; son, Dexter Murrell of Havelock; daughter, Veda Murrell of Clayton; daughter, Chandra Simmons of Newport; seven grandchildren; sister, Pearlie Harkley of Beaufort; brother, William Thomas Murrell and wife, Doris of Beaufort; sister, Ramona Mitchell of Beaufort; sister, Sandra Brown of Beaufort; brother, Artie M. Murrell and wife, Laurie of Morehead City; sister, Tammy Murrell of Beaufort; sister-in-law, Louis Lightfoot of Hertford, NC; and brother-in-law, Henry Gardner of LaGrange, NC, as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, and adopted children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Maggie Murrell; sister, Vada Murrell; sister, Sharon Gardner; brother, Avon Murrell, Alvin Taylor; Oliver Taylor.
