Viola Marie Lewis

Obituary Viola Marie Fender Lewis, 87 of Beaufort passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Carteret Healthcare Hospital in Morehead City, NC. She was born on October 12, 1930 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to James Edward and Nettie Tracey Fender. Viola grew up in Kalkaska, Michigan and married William Blades Lewis, Sr. in 1948 in Beaufort, North Carolina. They were happily married for 42 years. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Bridgeway Church of Beaufort. Burial will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, William Lewis; parents, James and Nettie Fender; and many siblings. Viola is survived by her sons/daughters: Bill Lewis, Jr. of Beaufort, Mary (Lew) Newman of Beaufort, Nancy (Richard) DeShong of West Point California, Myrtle (Bud) White of Eugene Oregon, Robert (Eve) Lewis of Smyrna, and Alice (Rick) Adams of Beaufort. And by her grandsons/daughters: Chris (Penelope) Newman of Cary, Caroline (Eddie) Piercey of Beaufort, Paul Adams of Wake Forest, William Garner of Newport, Reba DeShong of West Point California, R.W. Lewis of Smyrna, Marie Lewis of Smyrna, Christina Hults of Beaufort, Ricky Owens of Maryland, Tabby Styron of Newport, and Anne White of Eugene Oregon. And by her great grandsons/daughters: Jamie Newman, Preston Newman, Carrie Piercey, Rowan Newman, Joey White, Zachary Smith, Jailyn Turner, Kody Styron, and Tyler Willis. And great great grandsons/daughters: Raelynn Newman, Kendalynn Newman, and William White Jr. Also by her nieces and nephews and other relatives. And by her faithful companion, Pepper, the mini-dachshund. She enjoyed knitting, puzzles, and made a mean salmon patty. The entire town of Beaufort considered her their "Granny." A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Bridgeway Church of Beaufort.
