Violet Carrol “Dot” VerSteeg, 93, of Raleigh, NC passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Raleigh.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Nelson Bay Cemetery in Sea Level.
Dot was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent her teenage and young adult years living with family in Reidsville where she met her husband, William “Bill” VerSteeg. After years of moving around with Bill’s appraisal business the family finally settled in Greensboro. While living there she worked at Woolworth’s, then for several years as a real estate agent, ending her career in her 70’s after working for a local Greensboro interior designer. Dot always loved holidays with her family, good ole' southern cooking, playing with her grandchildren and Elvis.
Dot is survived by her three sons, William “Buddy” VerSteeg II and wife, Emily of Raleigh, Ronnie K. VerSteeg and wife, Anna of Isla Mujeres, Mexico, and Nicholas Gene VerSteeg of Wake Forest; her sister, Toni Jordan of Troy, and brother, Terry Liles of Virginia; her grandchildren: Shasta Kidder and husband, Stephen of Raleigh,Charity VerSteeg and husband, Brain Helms of Cramerton, Maria VerSteeg and husband, Joe Sabo of Raleigh and Alex VerSteeg of Isla Mujeres, Mexico; as well as two great grandchildren, Daven Kidder and Bodhi Kidder.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents; brothers, Clarance Salter Jr., and Jerry Nelson; sister-in-law, Catherine Nelson; her sister, Sandra Calicuitt; and her loving husband, William Versteeg.
