Virginia Carol Oden Chadwick passed on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. She was born September 5, 1945 to the late James Walter Oden, Sr. and Elizabeth Chadwick Oden. Also known as "Buddy" and "Liz." She was sixth of twelve children. Six of the twelve siblings have gone on to glory, Mildred Tyre "Bunchy;" James Walter Oden, Jr. "Little Buddy;" Letty Steele "Lett;" Reathella Murrell "Missy;" Claudia LaMae Oden Davis and Hattie Henderson. Virginia was married to James Garfield Chadwick for fifty-eight years. To this union two children were born; Anthony and Tracie. They were dedicated parents, actively involved in their childrens lives and true examples of living a faith-based life through Jesus Christ, our Savoir. Virginia grew up and lived all her life in Beaufort, NC. She was a graduate of the Queen Street High School. She worked for years at the Blue Bell Shirt Factory, until its closing. Virginia then decided to continue her education, earning an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Carteret Community College. After graduation, she became a Charter Employee of the Walmart in Morehead City, NC, working in the Fabric and Crafts Department. She later was promoted to Manager of this same Department. Being a seamstress herself and very knowledgeable of the craft, she was well known and often sought after for assistance and advice as "Ms. Virginia." Virginia was loved by employees and customers alike and considered this her community and many as adopted family. She continued serving Walmart customers until her retirement. Virginia was a devoted member, for over fifty years, of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Street, Beaufort, NC. She faithfully served in many positions over the years. Here we have highlighted just a few, in no particular order; Deaconess, Deaconess Vice-president, Sang in Senior Choir, Program Committee Secretary, Floral Committee Co-Chair, Pastors Aid Treasurer, Department of Christian Education Secretary, Assistant Minister of Christion Education, Youth Missionary Department Co-Director, Senior Missionary Stewardship and Mission-In-Action Chairperson, Budget Committee Member, Church Treasurer, Minister of Baptist Training Union, Youth Church Teacher, and Assistant Sunday School Teacher. Virginia is survived by her husband James G. Chadwick, Beaufort, NC; her son Anthony P. Chadwick of Warner Robins, GA (Alesia) and daughter Tracie J. Chadwick of Wilmington, NC. Granddaughters Karen Oropeza, Haely Chadwick-Libazs and Ashlynne-Kate Chadwick; Great-Granddaughter Lily Kate Libazs (Haely) and Great-Grandson Nikolas Chadwick Libazs (Haely), all of Warner Robins, GA. Two sisters Kinsey Perkins of Beaufort, NC and Fannie Jones (James) of Morehead City, NC; three brothers, William Oden (Cynthia) of Morehead City, NC, Kelvin Oden of Jacksonville, NC and Ronald Oden (Angela) of Antioch, TN; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind a great number of friends that became family to her and now to us. Virginia was gracious, outspoken and hard working. She was faithful to her husband and church, nurturing to her children, tenderhearted with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loving to her family, and gracious to her community. Never afraid to share her voice, Virginia has impacted the lives of many and will continue to do so.
